Description
July Monthly Networking Luncheon
Speaker: Kristan Seaford
TOPIC: A story of H.O.P.E. and Resilience
Kristan Seaford, raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She's also a “pastor’s wife,” (her husband is a pastor at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Matthews) with five children, aged 5-15. Today she will tell us the story of how she has coped with a major life upheaval, and she'll explain how HOPE can help us conquer any struggle that might come our way.
As a (mostly) stay-at-home mom, Kristan taught group exercise classes at the Siskey (now Brace) YMCA and found her joy in running marathons. But in November of 2013, her bout with the flu and strep throat turned into a life-threatening condition called septic shock. After three weeks in a medically-induced coma, 100 days in six different hospitals, and a miracle; she survived.
However, the powerful medications and treatments that saved her organs also necessitated the amputations of her hands and feet. Today Kristan lives as a triple amputee, with her remaining foot missing the toes and half of the heel. And she is as busy as ever -- caring for those five children, driving them to their various sports and activities, and volunteering at their schools. She leads an active lifestyle; she walks and runs, swims and cycles; she has downhill skied in Colorado, paddle-boarded in Lake Tahoe, and swam with dolphins in The Bahamas. Kristan even got back to teaching group exercise classes at the YMCA.
Kristan has become a motivational speaker and a well-followed blogger. She has spoken at large corporations, small business conventions, healthcare institutions, women's leadership conferences, colleges and universities, churches, schools, and community events.
A graduate of Duke University and Wake Forest University, Kristan also has a North Carolina License in Professional Counseling and runs a private practice from her office in downtown Matthews, North Carolina. She serves individuals, couples, and and helps them deal with things like mood and anxiety disorders, women's issues, family strife, chronic pain and chronic illnesses, couples counseling, and more.
