Description
This collection of Kodak cameras date from the 1890s to the 1990s and show a variety of styles as new technologies were added to cameras. Eastman Kodak Company, commonly known as Kodak, was founded by George Eastman in 1888. Kodak is best known for photographic film products but also made many cameras for over a century. See if your first camera is on display! From ?folding pocket cameras? to Brownies, as well as instamatic cameras, Kodak provided many families with their first affordable camera. During most of the 20th century Kodak held a dominant position in photographic film, and in 1976, had a 90% market share of photographic film sales in the United States. The company's tagline "Kodak moment" was used to describe a personal event that demanded to be recorded for posterity. In viewing this collection of twenty-five cameras, you will notice many changes making the art of picture taking easier and easier. In 1897 the first pocket camera with folding bellows was introduced. Soon to follow in 1900 was the Brownie camera creating a mass market for photography. By the 1960s the instamatic, an easy to load, point and shoot camera was introduced. In the 1980s the disc camera was introduced, but fell out of favor. For marking purposes there has even been a Mickey-matic. Today most of the world uses a phone to take a picture! Come learn about the first 100 years of popular photography.
